Whenever I open a cookbook in search of seafood recipes, there’s something in particular that I’m hoping to find. Once, at my brother’s wedding, I ate grilled scallops that blew my mind. They were wrapped in crispy, salty, mouthwatering bacon, and grilled to tender perfection. A noticible hint(but just barely)of sweet sauce was present. Thus I keep searching for grilled scallop receipes that will help me recall even minimally that wonderful time. Sometimes, browsing seafood recipes, I’ll try grilled shrimp instead. Grilled shrimp with pineapple almost hits the spot, with a similar juxtaposition of flavors.
Merely the smell of shrimp or scallops on the grill can activate a host of happy memories. Some grilled shrimp and a side of gazpacho might be good. The seafood is accented well by the sweet cucumbers, delicious tomatoes, and zesty fresh cilantro. But it just leaves me wanting more. It just leaves me wanting better. I was left wanting a short moment back in the past that I will never get. Then I page hurriedly through the fish section, seeking anything vaguely resembling a recipe for scallops.
Sweet or savory or any other way, I need my scallops! I want to eat them and stuff myself with them! Grilled scallops on a skewer is what I like to eat. A buffet table with grilled scallops. Grilled scallops on a bed of greens. Grilled scallops tangled up in pasta. Grilled scallops surrounded by tasteless cafeteria mush. Grilled scallops as my last meal in prison. I’d bring dehydrated grilled scallops with me into orbit if I were an astronaut, or I’d have them with a side order of brains if I turned into a zombie.
Bella’s thumping pulse would go away if I were a vampire and then I could run to the ocean and dive in to search for scallops. But I’ve never found anything so perfect again. Oh, my kingdom for just one more of those delectable grilled scallops! Please, for the love of all that is holy, I just want to eat those grilled scallops for the rest of my life!
